Hail to the Chef

So I'm not so hot at cooking, I can cook but I dont really appreciate it like I should. Last friday we decided we were going to make sugar cookies, more specifically Dinosaur cookies! We had all the stuff we needed dough, icing, sprinkles and people, all we were missing was the cutters. So off we go to Wal-Mart. Now being at a young and impressionable age I thought we could simply go to Wal-Mart, pick up the cutters and be on our way. I was mistaken.

Now i'm a fairly level headed person, I can figure most problems out with minimal effort on my own, however we couldn't find the damned cutters anywhere in the store! We looked everywhere, we finally had to track down a blue-vested helper man to track them down for us. Where were they? snuggled inbetween the crotchet needles and the scrapbooking supplies....wtf? Our biggest oversight was the time of year, with only 3 weeks till V-day the only selection available was assorted hearts and cupids. Downtrodden at the thought of not being able to make our dinosaur cookies we grabbed teh value pack of hearts and left.

We decided to make the best of the situation and make convesation heart cookies, so with home made frosting and sprinkles in hand we went to work. Now we arn't the greatest artists nor did we have the longest attention span, and i'm pretty sure an entire tube thingy of sprinkles ended up on the floor at some point, but through blood sweat and tears we finally made ourselves some fine looking cookies.

So I finally watched Lost...

I watched the Recap episode before the season premier to catch up on what I missed this last 5 years or so...wow what the crap is this crap? magic Islands? cult presance? Crazy crazies? the longest list of coincidences ever in the history of the broadcast world? they arn't lost any more, in fact they've been found, series over right? NO NO NO!!! Lets throw in TIME TRAVEL!!! Now we can revist any plot we want and rework it however we damn well please! Eff yeah! Money in the bank! So yeah, i'm not impressed, bring on the flames family!

The king of Risk!

So I havn't played a game of Risk since my mission. Risk to many means many things, to some it's an intolerably long game that gets old quickly, to others it's a brilliant time of tactics and strategy. When we played on my mission I remember games taking up to 4 hours and mission companions cursing each other out and at rare times some almost violent confrntations. Few games in our life have this kind of power.

Treaties and sackstabbing, thats the name of the game it seems. So last night my roomate Alex brings home his Lord of the Rings Risk, so we get a group of 4 of us to set down and get ready for some hardcore middle earth action(now with more hobbits). The players are myself, my roomates Drew and Kevin, and our token female presence Natalie. Now LOTR Risk is played diferant than regular risk what with heros and capital cities, all of which give you a +1 to your dice rolls.

As it goes Kevin and I draw the evil and Drew and Natalie end up and the sissy elves. Now the game isn't supposed to be played 2v2 but thats how it ended up. We started at 8 pm and finished around 2:30 am, A continous back and forth battle that finally ended when we broke Drew's stronghold in sothern Middle Earth while I held off natalies eagle battalion's in Moria so as to cut off her ability to reinforce and releive pressure on Drew beseiged forces.

Eventually in a last ditch effort Natalie back doors Kevin by taking out 3 strongholds in Mordor and bunkering down, it wasn't a winning strategy but it bought her several more turns while we finished mopping up drews forces and taking his cards for instant force turn ins!

Eventually Natalie was routed from our home land and the game was won...finally.

The time has come.

Today, Americans were witness to a historic event. President Barack Obama took an oath to protect and lead America in a new age of change and hope, as the 44 president of the United States of America

With the nation in the worst economic slump since the great depression and trust in the government at its lowest since Vietnam, words like 'hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriots" seems to be like music to the ears of weary Americans. These words were spoken to a crowd estimated as high as two million, filling the courtyard as far as the eye could see.

President Obama wasted no time in setting his ideals and goals forth, to curb the "sapping confidence across our land – a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights." His words ring true with those in attendance as he pauses for a loud cheer, he goes on to say "Today...the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America – they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord"

President Obama promises bold and swift action, to make good on his many promises to these American people that so abosultly belive in him and desperatly want the change he promises he can afford them.

The social impact of having an african american President is significant, love Obama or hate him, the social change he represents by his success alone is note worthy of the history books. President Obama was not shy to bring up the issue of race and equality in his speech, bridging the gaps and forming new bonds, offering the hand of peace to the world, while remaning strong in our convictions, "We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you"

Today America saw a vision of history in the making, time will tell if that vision becomes a reality.

So yeah...

Alrighty lets get this show on the road. I've never actually kept a blog and have in the past never liked reading them much. Ok maybe that was a little harsh. Actually I kind of like the idea os having some one reading my thoughts and ideas and hanging onto my every word, thats kind of why i'm choosing journalism as a major. On the other hand I dispise having people beg me to read their blog and comment on their oh so tender picture of their children or pets.

Enough prattle, I think i'll start now. So i've been unemployed for about two weeks now, I recently quit working for Freedom Wireless for several reasons. The first reason being that I was tired of working, I know who isn't right? but i've been working there since about 3 weeks after I got home from my mission back in March 06! I know right! Almost three years at the same job is kind of increadble for some one my age. I also quit because I'm tired of trying to hock products onto people, especially without being a direct location, trying to sell some one a product with your hands tied down by Verizons Indirect sales restrictions is like trying to tell with a gag on your mouth.

I've been wanting to quit for years, literaly YEARS! However the job was sweet the pay was decent especially when you consider the work to pay ratio. I remeber telling my friend Caitlin a while back how badly I hated my job and how depressing it was to drive 30 minutes to and from every day to go do something I hated doing. I just got a letter from my friend Caitlin a month or two ago and she come home from her mission in March, and here I was stuck in the same place doing the exact same thing. Not so cool as I thought I was.

Which brings me back today, sitting in my appartment, I woke up about 3 hours ago and I think now that my homework is finished i'm gonna go kill some Ninja's in Ninja Gaiden 2 for my xBox 360. Life is good!

My roomate travis and I plan to go sell our plasma some time this week, I'm kinda apprehensive about that as I dont relish the idea of a 19 year old college student jacking up my veins in an attempt to learn how to administer a shot. Bills do pay them selves though so I'm just gonna have to buck and do it. So look forward to that post next time.

Cheers
